Nonprofit organizations teach children to read their first words and comfort hospice patients when they say their last goodbyes. Nonprofit organizations help women escape from violent relationships and encourage people to escape into fine arts. Nonprofit organizations protect natural resources, remind us of our history, and discover new technologies.

South Dakota nonprofit organizations are part of every aspect of everyday life. Their missions are different and their values are diverse, but their overall vision is the same: to improve the lives of South Dakotans.

The South Dakota Nonprofit Association (SDNA) acknowledges and appreciates the myriad ways nonprofit organizations positively affect the state and its citizens. SDNA’s tripartite mission honors the diversity of South Dakota nonprofit organizations while seeking to strengthen and unite them: SDNA provides leadership training, advocates for the nonprofit sector as a whole, and facilitates networking opportunities.

SDNA provides its member organizations leadership training and technical assistance:

  • Administrative databases
  • Board members’ roles, responsibilities, and expectations
  • Finance and accounting
  • Marketing, communication, and outreach
  • Program evaluation
  • Revenue generation
  • Staff and volunteer recruitment and retention

SDNA advocates for the nonprofit sector as a whole in the following ways:

  • Hosts an annual “Nonprofit Awareness Day” during the legislative session at the State Capitol Building
  • Provides a unified voice representing the nonprofit sector
  • Organizes workshops regarding public and private funding, nonprofit management, and other issues affecting nonprofits
  • Conducts research and informational activities to increase public awareness of nonprofits
  • Provides information to foundations and corporate giving programs about the needs of organizations
  • Promotes communication and collaboration between nonprofits, businesses, and government
  • Educates the public about the nonprofit sector

SDNA facilitates networking opportunities through its conferences and workshops.

Organizations and individuals can join SDNA through nominal dues.

Your financial contributions—and your vote of confidence—support the SDNA’s mission while making you and your organization an integral part of something larger.
