Building a Better Community Through Volunteering
by Sara Carothers

Veterans Outreach – The Veterans Outreach Center is open Mondays through Saturdays, 9 am to 4:30 pm. Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including employment applications, resume building, internet and job searches, food preparation, etc. Volunteers may also assist with office and clerical duties as well as building and grounds maintenance.

Family Fun Festival – Health Connect is holding its 10th Annual Family FUN Festival Saturday, February 18 from 11 am to 3 pm, and 10 or more volunteers are needed for the following volunteer opportunities: set up, food preparation, event greeter, registration, face painting, inflatables, games supervision and tear down.

Fight For Air Walk - Fight for Air Walk volunteers are needed April 14 to help with setup, greeting walkers, registration, food services, water stops, clean up and other duties. The walk will be held in Sioux Falls; location to be determined.

Dog Therapy – Do you have that wonderful, well-behaved dog that loves children, adults, the elderly and other dogs? That has just described a Therapy Dog's temperament. Imagine taking your dog to visit with an elderly person, or sitting on the floor with a child reading to your dog while touching and petting him//her. Or, present your dog to patients in a hospital setting. After passing your certification test with your dog, you will then receive your credentials from Therapy Dogs International, Inc. and can begin to volunteer together.

Multi-Cultural Center - Youth programs at the Multi-Cultural Center are in need of help with preparing snacks, homework assistance, in recreational activities and reading to students. Other occasional opportunities for volunteers include working special events such as Pow Wows, the Festival of Cultures, the Dr. King Day Celebration and more. Volunteers need to complete a volunteer application available in the Multi-Cultural Center's office.

For information on these and other volunteer opportunities please call the Helpline Center by dialing 211 or visit www.helplinecenter.org.
